YOUTH LEADERSHIP (Y.L.P.)

OVERVIEW

The Youth Leadership Program has offered local and international programs for young leaders since 1998. We provide culturally diverse leadership training for young people concerned about Aboriginal communities and sustainable development. Our program gives youth from different backgrounds the opportunity to broaden their horizons and make profound changes in their communities and their lives.

Our diverse programs provide youth with the opportunity to:
  • to develop youth leadership capacity through cross-cultural experience and outdoor experiential learning
  • to empower young leaders to take an active role in community development
  • to support community development projects that promote respect for indigenous culture and human rights
Our internship programs and international development projects provide youth with the opportunity to:
  • Travel and experience other cultures and ways of life
  • Participate in outdoor leadership training
  • Learn about Canadian Aboriginal and international indigenous cultures
  • Develop personal skills in the four areas of the medicine wheel (physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional)
  • Gain experience working with youth and communities
  • Develop their capacities as leaders for their communities

Indigenous Insights to Human Rights Project

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has sponsored this project to support the protection of human rights in the indigenous communities of Bolivia. We hope to empower indigenous youth in Bolivia to raise awareness about human rights in their communities and participate more fully in the governance of Bolivia. Rediscovery Bolivia and Nur University, in partnership with Ghost River Rediscovery Society, have started a public education program to inspire collective action that will result in the increased protection of human rights and an improved quality of life in the indigenous communities of Bolivia.
